Agents at Work / The tool stack / Codex
02 · Build · Primer
Codex, the other builder.
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent. It does the same job as Claude Code. You describe what you want in plain English and it writes and runs the files. The prompts in the accelerator work in either one. Pick the one whose plan you already pay for.
What you get
- The same prompts and the same files, in the tool you already have.
- A second opinion when Claude Code gets stuck, if you keep both.
- A way to follow along without a second subscription.
How it fits in your agent.
What it is
OpenAI's coding agent. It works in the terminal and online, inside ChatGPT.
What it does for your agent
Writes every file from the same prompts. The result is the same folder.
When you touch it
Only if you choose it over Claude Code. We teach with Claude Code.
The one idea.
The tool is not the skill. The skill is saying what you want clearly, checking what came back, and fixing what isn't you. That works in any coding agent.
What you'll do with it.
- Open Codex in the terminal, or inside ChatGPT.
- Paste the same prompts, in the same order.
- When a step says Claude, do the same step in Codex.
Words to know.
- Prompt
- What you type to the AI. In the accelerator, one prompt makes one piece of your agent.
- Terminal
- The text box where you type a command and the computer does it. Claude Code lives here.
- Repo
- Your folder, saved on GitHub with its whole history. Short for repository.
